By accessing or using VinForFree.com (the “Site”), including any free or paid features, you (“User”) agree to be bound by this Disclaimer in full. If you do not agree, you must immediately discontinue use of the Site.

This Disclaimer is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Use. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms of Use.

1. Informational Purpose Only

VinForFree LLC provides vehicle information for general research and informational purposes only. Nothing on this Site constitutes legal, mechanical, financial, professional, or automotive advice of any kind. We are not licensed mechanics, automotive inspectors, title examiners, financial advisors, or legal professionals. We do not provide vehicle inspection services, title guarantees, odometer certifications, or any form of professional automotive assessment.

Before making any financial commitment — including purchasing, financing, insuring, or leasing a vehicle — you should always:

  • Obtain an independent mechanical inspection from a qualified, licensed automotive technician
  • Obtain a physical title examination from a licensed title company or attorney
  • Consult with a licensed financial advisor regarding vehicle financing
  • Independently verify all vehicle information with the seller, dealer, or relevant government authority
  • Check the vehicle’s physical VIN plate against the reported VIN to confirm they match
  • Run the VIN through the free NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) theft check at nicb.org/vincheck

2. Data Accuracy and Inherent Incompleteness

2a. Data Is Inherently Incomplete by Nature

Vehicle history data — whether free or paid — is inherently and unavoidably incomplete. This is not a limitation of VinForFree LLC specifically; it is a structural reality of all vehicle history reporting systems. You expressly acknowledge that:

  • Not all vehicle accidents are reported to law enforcement, insurance companies, or government databases. Minor accidents handled privately between parties are rarely captured in any database
  • Not all US states report to all national databases, and reporting timelines vary significantly — some title transactions may not appear for weeks or months after the event
  • Title brands (salvage, flood, rebuilt, junk) may be delayed, misfiled, or not reported at all in some jurisdictions
  • Odometer readings are only recorded when a title transfers or a service record is created — gaps are common and do not indicate fraud or accuracy
  • Private party vehicle sales generate little to no reportable data in most databases
  • Out-of-country vehicle history may not appear in US databases
  • Auction data and damage records are available only where they have been reported to data providers
  • A VIN may exist in multiple databases with conflicting information, and we cannot always resolve those conflicts

2b. A Clean Report Does NOT Mean a Clean Vehicle

THE ABSENCE OF NEGATIVE INFORMATION IN ANY REPORT FROM VINFORFREE.COM IS NOT EVIDENCE THAT A VEHICLE HAS A CLEAN HISTORY. A VEHICLE MAY HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS, FLOODED, BURNED, STOLEN, OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED WITHOUT ANY SUCH EVENT APPEARING IN OUR DATA.

You expressly acknowledge this limitation and agree that you will not rely solely on any report from VinForFree LLC when making a vehicle purchase decision.

2c. Report Reflects a Point in Time

All reports generated by VinForFree.com reflect data available in the relevant databases at the exact moment the report was generated. Events that occur after the report is generated — including new accidents, newly filed title brands, new theft records, or new odometer readings — will not appear in a previously generated report. VinForFree LLC is not responsible for any information that becomes available after report generation.

2d. Third-Party Data — No Endorsement or Verification

Data displayed on VinForFree.com is sourced from third-party providers including NHTSA, EPA, and licensed commercial data providers. VinForFree LLC does not independently verify this data. We are not responsible for errors, omissions, inaccuracies, or delays in third-party data. Any errors in third-party data are the sole responsibility of those providers.

VinForFree LLC is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NHTSA, EPA, NMVTIS, the US Department of Justice, the US Department of Transportation, or any government agency.

3. Paid VIN Pro Plus Reports — Specific Disclaimer

Payment for a VIN Pro Plus report does NOT guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or currency of the data returned.

By purchasing a VIN Pro Plus report, you expressly acknowledge and agree that:

  • You are paying for access to data from third-party licensed data providers — not for a guarantee, warranty, inspection, certification, or professional opinion of any kind
  • The $4.99 price reflects data access fees, not a promise of any particular data content or coverage
  • Some VINs may return limited data due to the vehicle’s age, origin, state of registration, or data provider coverage — this is not a defect and does not entitle you to a refund
  • VinForFree LLC makes no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy or completeness of any paid report
  • A paid report showing no accidents, no title issues, and no odometer problems does not mean the vehicle is free of such issues — it means no such issues appeared in the databases queried at the time of the report
  • You remain solely responsible for any vehicle purchase decision you make, regardless of what any paid report shows or does not show

4. License Plate Lookup — Specific Disclaimer

The License Plate Lookup feature converts a license plate number and state into a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) using a third-party API. VinForFree LLC makes no warranty as to the accuracy of the VIN returned. You should always verify a returned VIN against the physical VIN plate on the vehicle before relying on any data generated from that VIN. VinForFree LLC is not responsible for any inaccurate VIN returned by the License Plate Lookup feature or for any consequence of relying on an inaccurate VIN.

This feature is subject to the federal Driver’s Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). See our Terms of Use Section 5 for full DPPA compliance requirements.

5. NMVTIS Data Disclosure

Some VIN Pro Plus reports may include data sourced from or consistent with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS), a national consumer protection database established under 49 U.S.C. § 30502.

Required NMVTIS Disclosure: NMVTIS data may not reflect all title transactions, including those occurring in states that do not yet fully report to NMVTIS, or transactions that have been reported but not yet entered into the system. A lack of NMVTIS data does not mean a vehicle has a clean title history. Not all states participate in NMVTIS reporting, and participation levels vary.

6. FCRA — Not a Consumer Report

Reports from VinForFree.com are NOT consumer reports as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. These reports may not be used for:

  • Employment screening or background checks
  • Credit eligibility determinations
  • Insurance eligibility or underwriting decisions
  • Tenant screening or housing eligibility
  • Any other FCRA-regulated purpose

Using our reports for FCRA-regulated purposes is strictly prohibited and may expose you to civil and criminal liability. VinForFree LLC is not a consumer reporting agency and shall not be held liable for any User’s misuse of report data in violation of the FCRA.

7. Free Core Service Disclaimer

VinForFree LLC’s core VIN decoder service — including specs, NHTSA recalls, consumer complaints, crash test ratings, EPA fuel economy, and estimated market value — is provided free of charge and is powered entirely by publicly available government databases. This free data is provided “as is” without any warranty of accuracy, completeness, or timeliness. Government databases may have delays, gaps, or errors that are outside our control.

8. No Warranty — Full Disclaimer

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT, REPORTS, DATA, AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. VINFORFREE LLC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, AND TIMELINESS.

VINFORFREE LLC DOES NOT WARRANT THAT:

  • THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE
  • ANY REPORT ACCURATELY OR COMPLETELY REFLECTS THE HISTORY OF ANY VEHICLE
  • DATA PROVIDED BY THIRD-PARTY PROVIDERS IS ACCURATE, CURRENT, OR COMPLETE
  • ANY REPORT WILL MEET YOUR EXPECTATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS
  • THE SITE WILL BE FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS

Some jurisdictions do not permit exclusion of implied warranties. In such jurisdictions, the above exclusions apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VINFORFREE LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR ANY REPORT, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES
  • LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
  • VEHICLE PURCHASE LOSSES, REPAIR COSTS, DIMINISHED VALUE CLAIMS, OR LEMON VEHICLE LOSSES
  • LEGAL DISPUTES BETWEEN BUYERS, SELLERS, DEALERS, OR ANY THIRD PARTY ARISING FROM REPORT DATA
  • DAMAGES ARISING FROM DATA INACCURACY, OMISSION, INCOMPLETENESS, DELAY, OR UNAVAILABILITY
  • DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR RELIANCE ON ANY FREE OR PAID REPORT
  • DAMAGES ARISING FROM THIRD-PARTY DATA PROVIDER ERRORS, FAILURES, OR OUTAGES
  • DAMAGES ARISING FROM FORCE MAJEURE EVENTS BEYOND OUR REASONABLE CONTROL
  • ANY VEHICLE-RELATED FINANCIAL LOSS OF ANY KIND, WHETHER OR NOT SUCH LOSS COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED BY MORE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE DATA

THIS LIMITATION APPLIES WHETHER THE CLAIM IS BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, CONSUMER PROTECTION STATUTE, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF VINFORFREE LLC HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

IN NO EVENT SHALL THE TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY OF VINFORFREE LLC TO YOU EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SPECIFIC REPORT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) TEN DOLLARS ($10.00 USD).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in this Disclaimer limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless VinForFree LLC, its members, managers, employees, agents, data providers, and affiliates from any claim, loss, liability, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from: your use of the Site; your reliance on any report; your violation of these Terms or any applicable law; any vehicle purchase decision you make; or any dispute between you and any third party related to your use of this Site or any report.
