Who We Are
VinForFree.com is a free vehicle history and VIN decoder platform built for used car buyers across the United States. We believe that safety information should be accessible to everyone — not locked behind a $45 paywall.
Founded by Adam Saleh, VinForFree was built out of a simple frustration: the used car market is one of the largest financial decisions most Americans make, yet the tools to research a vehicle were either expensive, confusing, or both. We set out to fix that.
Our Mission
Our mission is straightforward: give every car buyer — first-timer or seasoned pro — the data they need to make a confident, informed decision.
The free VIN decoder on VinForFree gives you instant access to specs, safety recalls, NHTSA complaints, crash test ratings, fuel economy, and estimated market value. No signup. No credit card. No tricks.
For buyers who need deeper protection — accident history, title records, odometer data, and ownership history — we offer VIN Pro Plus at $4.99 per report. That’s one price, one report, no subscription. Carfax charges $44.99 for the same type of data. We don’t think that’s fair to buyers.
We will never hide safety recall information, complaints, or specs behind a paywall. That data is yours by right.

Why Trust Us
Our free data comes directly from government sources:
- NHTSA VPIC API — the same official database used by manufacturers and law enforcement
- NHTSA Safety API — recalls and consumer complaints
- EPA FuelEconomy.gov — fuel economy and emissions
- CarQuery — vehicle specifications
Our paid VIN Pro Plus reports come from licensed third-party data providers with access to private insurance networks and the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) — the same underlying sources used by the major paid services, at a fraction of the price.
We follow ISO 3779 international VIN standards and NHTSA VPIC decoding protocols to ensure accuracy.
Our Commitment to You
- We will never sell your personal data
- We will never require a credit card for the free report
- We will never hide recall or safety data behind a paywall
- We will always be transparent about what data comes from where
- We will always tell you when a report has limitations
We also actively educate users on common used car scams — VIN cloning, title washing, odometer fraud — because an informed buyer is a protected buyer.
The Technology
VinForFree runs on a custom-built VIN decoding engine optimized for speed and accuracy. Reports load in under two seconds. The platform is fully mobile-responsive — built for the dealership lot, the driveway, and everywhere in between.
We cache government API responses intelligently to ensure reports are fast without sacrificing freshness. Our VFF Score and VIN Quality Score are proprietary algorithms developed in-house to give buyers an at-a-glance vehicle health rating that no other free platform offers.
